Boys outscored throughout match
RANDOLPH - As the pre-holiday portion of the Randolph boys basketball team’s schedule winds down, the Cardinals found themselves on the wrong end of a 63-33 score with Ponca here Dec. 12 to drop their season record to 0-3 and improve the Indians to 3-1.
Ponca led at every stop, outscoring Randolph 17-7 in the opening eight minutes, 26-14 at the intermission and 47-21 after three before posting the 63-33 final score.
“This was really another tough night shooting the ball,”said Cardinals coach Cory Simpson. “We need to learn to play four full quarters of basketball.”
Randolph shot a frigid 10-of-37 from the field for 27 percent on the night and were 8-for-16 from the foul line.
Logan Lienemann had the hot hand in the game for the Cardinals as he poured in 19 points on a solid 6-for-13 performance shooting including 5-for-11 from beyond the 3-point line.
Luke Harder added seven points, Lucas Bartels tossed in four and Ryan Engel had three.
Engel handed out seven assists and pulled down five rebounds, Lienemann and Kody Junck each gathered in four missed shots.
Engel recorded a couple of steals. Randolph was set to continue its season with a game scheduled for Dec. 17 in Creighton then a home date with Archangels Catholic to close out this year’s schedule.
“We have a great opportunity this week,” Simpson said. “We will be facing a pair of really good teams in Creighton and Archangels.”
The Bulldogs were 1-3 while the Flyers were 4-1 heading into the week.
The Cardinals game with Lyons-Decatur Northeast, which was scheduled for Dec. 13 has now been moved to Jan. 2.
