Jays second-half surge drops Wynot boys

WEST POINT — The Wynot Blue Devils travelled to West Point to take on the Guardian Angel Central Catholic Bluejays on Thursday night.

The Blue Devils would fall behind early but rally back before coming up just short as the Blue Jays would give the Blue Devils their first loss by a final score of 57-50. The outcome of the game was determined at the free throw line as the Bluejays would go 16 of 24 from the line while the Blue Devils would hit only 3 of 12 from the charity stripe.

Konner Kralik had a monster game for the Blue Jays pouring in a game high 31 points. Chase Smith also hit double figures with 12 points for the home team.

Wynot got double figure scoring from Kotner Koch with his 13 points and Andrew Haberman connected for 11 points to lead the Blue Devils offense.

Wynot would get 2 points each from Kotner Koch, Killian Steinhaus and Cooper Oligmueller in the opening quarter. GACC would counter with 10 points by Konner Kralik and 5 points from Luke Guenther as the Bluejays opened up a 17-7 early advantage.

In the second quarter the Bluejays would get 5 more points from Conner Kralik and a trey by Chase Smith. Wynot would get balanced scoring as they went on a big 24-10 run to lead 31-27 at halftime. The rally was fueled by a pair of three pointers by Cooper Oligmueller and one each by Devin Brummer and Kotner Koch along with a pair of conventional baskets each from Killian Steinhaus and Andrew Haberman.

The Bluejays would rally back in the third quarter led by 11 more points from Konner Kralik and five points from Chase Smith as GACC went on an 18-9 run of their own.

Wynot got four points from Andrew Haberman and a second three pointer by Devin Brummer but trailed 45-40 going into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter the two teams would trade baskets. A pair of baskets by Kotner Koch and one each from Killian Steinhaus and Andrew Haberman cut the Bluejays lead to 4 points. A three pointer by Kralik and 6 for 8 free throw shooting by the Blue Jays in the final minutes sealed the win for GACC 57-50.
