CROFTON — The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bears basketball team was on the road to open the 2024-25 season with a pair of games.
The Lady Bears defeated Creighton, 70-26, in their season opener, then ran into a buzz saw in highly-ranked Crofton on Dec. 6, where they fell, 86-39.
The Lady Warriors controlled the game with LCC from the opening tip and used relentless defensive pressure to stifle the Lady Bears offense the entire contest.
Rena Rasmussen had a productive game inside and led the Lady Bears offensive attack with 18 points, Carlie Kvols added seven and Tyler Recob scored six.
Kvols pulled down five rebounds and Camryn Sohler handed out a couple of assists to aid the Lady Bears’ cause.
In the game with Creighton, the Lady Bears defense held the Black and Red in single digits in every quarter and only allowed five points in the final eight-minute frame to claim the victory.
Meanwhile, the offense was building a large lead from the opening tip, leading by 13 after the first stop, 30 at the break, and 63-19 heading into the last stanza.
Rasmussen again paced the offense with 21 points, Kaida Eriksen poured in 11, Kvols added 10 and Hattie McCorkindale chipped in eight.
Rasmussen completed a double-double with 11 rebounds, Lainey Schutte grabbed six missed shots.
The Lady Bears were set to travel to Homer to take on the Lady Knights on Dec. 10 before finally having a home game on Dec. 13 with Tri-County Northeast.
LCC will hit the road again on Dec. 17 to take on Ponca.
