Kody Junck contributed four.

Junck added five boards to his night, Engel, Winkelbauer and Samano each pulled down four.

“Our shooting percentage was amazingly low which makes it very difficult against any team, but especially against seasoned teams like we played,” Simpson said.

The Cardinals have a couple of home dates with Ponca on Dec. 12 and Lyons-Decatur Northeast on Dec. 13 before hitting the road for a game at Creighton on Dec. 17.

“This week will provide us with another good opportunity,” RANDOLPH - Randolph dropped its first two games of the 2024-25 season — 72-35 to O’Neill St. Mary’s on the road Dec.5 and 52-37 to Chambers/Wheeler Central here at home on Dec. 6 — but head coach Cory Simpson and his Cardinals are focused on improving each time they pick up a basketball.

“You wouldn’t know it by the scores, but we have a ton of positives that came out of those first two games,” Simpson said. “Our young group hung with two of the best teams in the state for half of each game. We just need to learn how to play four quarters and finish.”

After dropping the opening game to St. Mary’s by 37 points, the Cardinals took the home floor for the first time of the season and played with the Renegades before falling by just 15 at the end of the game.

Ryan Engel had the hot hand for Randolph as he poured in 14 points on the night.

Adrian Samano added seven, Logan Lienemann and Luke Harder each had five and Lucas Bartels tacked on four.

Kody Junck pulled down five rebounds, Dayton Winkelbauer, Engel and Samano each grabbed four missed shots.

In the game with St. Mary’s, Engel and Lienemann paced Randolph with eight points each.
