WYNOT — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils opened the 2024-2025 basketball season with a pair of wins on Thursday and Friday night.
On Thursday the Lady Devils hosted the Bloomfield Lady Bees and earned a 38-34 season-opening win.
On Friday, they improved to 2-0 as they tamed the Winside Wildcat 57-36.
On Thursday night Wynot got off to a fast start racing to a 20-5 first quarter lead only to see the Queen Bees rally in the final three quarters before hanging on for the 38-34 win.
Wynot was led by point guard Jaylin Giesen with 12 points and five assists. Kenna Oligmueller helped the Lady Devils’ cause with 10 points and six rebounds.
Bloomfield got a big performance from freshman Madison Mlady who poured in a game-high 23 points hitting a pair of treys and going 9-11 from the charity stripe.
The Lady Blue Devils started the game on a fast pace as they opened the first quarter on a 20-5 run. Kenna Oligmueller and Eliza Lange led the way with seven and six points respectively in the period.
Bloomfield rallied in the second quarter led by Madison Mlady’s 10 points the Queen Bees cut into the Lady Devils lead but still trailed 2615 at the half. Jaylin Giesen had five points to pace the Lady Blue Devils in the frame.
The Queen Bees continued to make headways in the third quarter getting eight more points from Mlady to cut the home team’s lead to 36 -21 going into the final quarter. Wynot got a pair of baskets from Haley Wieseler and one each by Jaylin Giesen and Kenna Oligmueller.
The game got tight late in the final period as Bloomfield got a pair of field goals from Kora Poppe and a layup from Avery Bargman as Wynot‘s lead was cut to just two points with 1:14 left in the game.
Jordan Foxhoven had an offensive putback for Wynot and a pair of free throws by Eliza Lange in the final minute sealed the win for the Blue Devils, 38-34.

On Friday night the Lady Blue Devils pulled away in the second half to defeat Winside 57-36.
Kenna Oligmueller led the Lady Blue Devil offense in the contest, as she poured in a game-high 27 points. Eliza Lange and Jordan Foxhoven helped the visitors with eight points each.
