ATKINSON — Evie Freeman’s high school wrestling career got off to a great start here Monday.
The Cedar Catholic freshman earned three pins enroute to an undefeated day and a first-place finish in the 110-pound weight class at the West Holt Invitational.
Freeman’s title match was against Neligh-Oakdale’s Baylee Chessmore, who went into the match rated fourth in Class B.
Freeman’s first two pins took place in the first period, but she wasn’t able to secure the pin until the second period in her title match.
Cedar Catholic’s Morgan Kuchta also competed at the West Holt meet. She went to the mat for five matches on the day, and ended up with a 3-2 record. Two of her wins were by pin, while she had to survive a 9-8 battle to defeat Ainsworth’s Megan Jones for her other win.
The Cedar Catholic girls wrestling team will be in action again Thursday night when they head to Battle Creek for a dual meet.
