Bears welcome new coach, new conference

LAUREL - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge boys basketball team welcomed a new coach to its first practice to open the 2024-25 season.

Quin Conner will be manning the head of the bench for this campaign and LCC will play in the Greater Northeast Activities Conference for its inaugural basketball season.

Conner, the activities director for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge is coming out of a temporary retirement from coaching to take charge of the Bears ship for 2024-25.

The Bears return three senior starters from last year’s team that finished the season in the Sub-District finals with a loss to Cedar Catholic and a 13-13 record.

Gibson Roberts is the top returning player for Conner and company after a junior campaign which saw him average just under 15 points per game and receive Lewis & Clark All-Conference recognition.

Classmates, Eli Haisch and Connor Korth also return after starting last season, Caleb Erwin also comes back for his senior year after seeing a lot of action the past few years.

Conner will also look for sophomore, Cade Johnson to find the court along with freshman newcomer, Drey Puppe.

LCC will open the new season on the road for the first three games.

The Bears will head to Creighton for the season opener on Dec. 5 then to Crofton the next night to take on the Warriors.

A trip to Homer is set for Dec. 10 then the first home date with Tri County Northeast on Dec. 13. Two additional road games before the Holiday Break with trips up to take on Ponca on Dec. 17 then the first GNAC game with Plainview on Dec. 20.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge will compete in the Wayne Holiday Tournament Dec. 27-30.

The New Year will find the Bears at home to take on Elkhorn Valley in a GNAC game on Jan. 7 then a trip north to take on Cedar Catholic on the Jan. 9.

Another GNAC contest with Hartington-Newcastle highlights the remainder of January in Laurel with the conference tournament set for the first week of February.

LCC will take on Wynot on Feb. 21 then open SubDistrict play on Feb. 24. The District final game is scheduled for March 1 and the Nebraska Boys State Basketball Tournament will run from March 12-15.
