LAUREL - To observe their first anniversary in the trucking business, Brittell’s will hold an open house December 5 during their normal business hours.
It will be held in their warehouse building across the street east of the city auditorium, formerly occupied by the Gamble Store. There will be free food, coffee, treats for the kids and door prizes.

LAUREL- David Silhacek was last week’s winner in the tail feather contest with an entry measuring 24”. Leading so far this week is a 23 1/2” feather entered by Rodney Erwin.
Silhacek is also the winner for last month and will receive a free year’s subscription to the Advocate.

LAUREL — Cynamid Farm Supply will hold a grand opening at their plant at the extreme east end of main street December 5. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Door prizes will be given away. Included is a Shetland pony for some lucky youngster.

HARTINGTON — Walter Hively Jr., 17 year-old Hartington high school junior, is being held in jail in lieu of $10,000 bond after being charged with second degree murder in the death of his father at Hartington.
The charge was filed in connection with the death late Friday night of the youth’s father, Walter Hively Sr., 39, at the family home. An argument between the father and his wife was reportedly the cause of the shooting.

HARTINGTON — Coleridge basketball opens this Saturday evening with a game at Allen. Three lettermen will be returning to the squad – Leroy Cautrell, Gary Ryan and Tom Philips.

COLERIDGE — A total of 22 more deer were checked in this year by Sheriff John Riibe than last year.
There were 140 deer checked in during the 9-day season. Tagged were 114 bucks and 28 does. Every 80th permit was allowed to shoot either sex.

COLERIDGE — A corn-picking bee was held at the Waldine Krei farm northeast of town Thursday when 66 men picked about 12,000 bushels of corn from 145 acres.
Twenty pickers, eight elevators and a large number of wagons were used. Twenty-eight women prepared dinner at the Legion Hall. Mr. Krei, who has been hospitalized in Osmond, is now taking treatment in an Omaha hospital.

COLERIDGE — Roger Hahne has received an All-State Honorable Mention in football for Class C by the Omaha World Herald. Hahne scored 80 points this year and had 994 yards rushing in 180 carries for a 5.6 yard average.

COLERIDGE — Cedar Catholic volleyballers were handed a 15-12, 15-8 defeat in the opening game by the Coleridge Chargers under the leadership of coach Connie Rathgeber.

COLERIDGE — Ninety-four Nebraska communities are anxiously awaiting the annual Nebraska Community Improvement Program awards day activites which are to take place in Columbus on Dec. 5.
Thirty-one of the communities are finalists in the community awards competition, 52 are entered in special awards competition and 11 are seeking the title of “All-Nebraska Community.”
