Blade, Times newspapers change hands

COLERIDGE — The Coleridge Bulldogs will play their first scheduled basketball game of the season here Friday when they will tangle with Winside. The game is a Corntassel conference contest.

COLERIDGE — Adult classes will begin at the Coleridge school house on Wednesday evening, December 7. Classes will be offered in typing, sewing, farm problems, family relationships, current problems, photography and woodwork.

COLERIDGE — Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Cogdill were honored Sunday, Nov. 27 at a dinner at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Hansen for their 55th wedding anniversary. Dec. 2, 1954

COLERIDGE — Two persons were taken to a Sioux City hospital suffering from injuries received in a collision of a Jeep pickup and a car at an intersection one mile east and two miles north of Coleridge Tuesday. Hospitalized were Charles Craig and his stepson, Virgil Christiansen, who resides northeast of here.

COLERIDGE — Cilff Hinrichs, Morningside College sophomore from Coleridge, has received a trophy for being voted the “most improved” player on the Morningside football team during the past season. Cliff, a halfback, was one of 27 letter winners announced this week by Morningside Coach Clayton Droullard.

COLERIDGE — The Coleridge Bulldogs will open the 1954-55 basketball season at Crofton Friday evening. The Bulldogs will play five games before the holidays including conference contests against Wausa and Hahn high. Coleridge will play its first home game against Hartington Tuesday.

COLERIDGE — Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Sassaman are the parents of their first child, a daughter, weight 7 pounds, born Friday, November 26. She has been named Cynthia Jean. Mrs. Sassaman is the former Norma Ruger.

COLERIDGE — Virgil E. Rose, 91, Coleridge’s grand old man, passed away early Wednesday morning at the Coleridge Nursing Home. Death was attributed to a heart attack. He had been failing since Friday when he fell at the home. He had been a resident of this community since 1912.

COLERIDGE — The Coleridge Community School Girls Glee club will appear on the “Sounds of Christmas” program over KTIV, channel 4, on Monday, Dec. 7.

COLERIDGE — Robert Yost of Lexington, former Coleridge resident, has purchased the Coleridge Blade from Vance D. Viergutz in a transaction which was announced this week. The purchase means two county newspapers will soon have new owners. Mr. Vierguetz bought the Randolph Times from Stanley Norris, then sold the Blade to Yost.

Mr. Yost will assume his duties as publisher of the Blade on Jan. 1, 1960. The transaction included the sale of the business, equipment and the building which it occupies.

Mr. Viergutz, publisher of the Blade for over 13 years, has purchased the Randolph Times from Stanley Norris. Mr. Norris had edited the Times since October 1950. The new owner of the Blade is a 1953 graduate of Coleridge High School and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Yost. He attended Wayne Sate Teachers College one year and the University of Nebraska one year following his graduation from high school. Mr. Yost began his newspaper career as an employee of the Coleridge Blade. He later was employed by the Madison Star, and he will leave his present position at the Lexington Clipper to become publisher of the Blade.
