CUMMING, IOWA — On Oct. 3, the day Don Grella was laid to rest in Laurel, a special award was given in his honor at the Iowa Dressage Classic I Horse Show.

The show was held at the Maffitt Lake Equestrian Center in Cumming, Iowa. Included in the ranks of the Des Moines Mounted Police was a symbolic riderless horse as they presented the colors and requested a moment of silence to honor our brave service men and women, veterans and their families.

Six members of the Des Moines Diversity Chorus sang the “Star Spangled Banner” as the flag was presented and “America the Beautiful” following the award ceremony.
