Twinkling trees, holiday creativity mark event

Jeri Gubbels won first place with her Grinchthemed tree.

RANDOLPH –A dimly lit city auditorium was transformed into a Merry and Bright Christmas Tree Showcase in a new event hosted by Reaching Out Around Randolph (ROAR) last weekend.

A total of 11 trees were featured in the first-time event.

About 75 people viewed the trees and voted for their favorites, said Christie Larsen who helped organize the event.

Jeri Gubbels’ Grinch-themed tree garnered the most votes, followed by a fireman-themed tree decorated by Sherri Bargstadt. Melissa Engel’s Cardinal tree earned third place.

Other decorated trees included a John Deere yellow and green tree by Megan Nordhues; a Nebraska Cornhusker tree by Larsen; a snowflake tree by Cortney Nordhues; a Harley Davidson motorcyle-themed tree by Sandy Owens; a poinsettia- themed tree by Mary Kruger; a snowman-themed tree decorated by Angie Nordhues and Amy Graham; and a traditional tree decorated by ROAR.

ROAR hosted the event as an alternative to the Christmas Tour of Homes held in previous years, Larsen said.

She said ROAR will most likely host the Tree Showcase again next year.

Sherri Bargstadt’s fireman tree earned second place.
Melissa Engel’s cardinal-themed Christmas tree earned third place.
