City Council approves permits, adopts plan for city fees

HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Council Monday approved several items of routine business.

The Council approved a liquor license for CoCo Bongo LLC for the Historic Hartington Hotel.

The Council also granted two building permits. A permit for a new home was granted for Herbert Bose, who plans to build in northeast Hartington. The Council also granted a permit for the Cedar County Historical Musuem. They want to build a structure to house the Pvt. Shannon statue. The statue is currently at the Hartington Public Library.

The Council also gave its nod of approval for a sign permit for the Hartington VFW and for a pair of building permits.

The Council also gave its approval to an LB840 drawdown request of $19,558 to NPPD and to JEO Engineering for work being done at the new Hartington business development park.

In other action, the Council agreed to the nomination of Matt Burbach to the Hartington Volunteer Fire Department roster.

The Council also reviewed the monthly Cedar County Sheriff's Department report for time spent in Hartington.

The Sheriff's Department spent 241 hours of patrol work in Hartington in October. Of that, oneand- a-half hours was spent specifically on school traffic. Officers made two traffice stops in October, handing out one written warning and one verbal warning.

Law enforcement officers also helped with one EMS assist, answered a call for an alarm and were called out for two disturbances.

Council members also discussed the city's recreation facilities, with concerns the new nets at the Felber Park batting cages could become weather damaged since they have not been taken down yet.

Council members were also told that a new portable pickle ball net has arrived. The plan is to set up a pickle ball court in the basement of the city auditorium. Lines have already been painted on the floor for the court.

City Clerk Brittni Benscoter asked the Council for permission to begin cleaning up about $2,200 in old debt that is on the books and now several years old. The Council agreed that it is mostly likely uncollectable and told her to write it off as bad debt.

Benscoter also asked the Council for permission to create a master fee schedule.

Currently, city fees are simply listed in the old meeting minutes and resolutions according to when they are approved. Looking up old fees can be very cumbersome, she said. The master fee schedule would list all city fees in one place, Benscoter said. Council members agreed it would be a good idea and told Benscoter to go ahead with the project.
