HARTINGTON — While area residents celebrated Cedar Catholic’s appearance in the state football title game, this week, one local family had a little more reason to celebrate.
Jerome and Alice Uhing, Bow Valley, cheered on a grandson who plays for Cedar Catholic Tuesday, but they also cheered on grandsons going for state titles with Norfolk Catholic and Omaha Skutt.
The Uhings took in the Class C-2 state title game between Cedar Catholic and Ponca at 10:15 a.m.,
Tuesday.
They then hung around for the Norfolk Catholic - Class C1 title game at 2:45 p.m., Tuesday. Tuesday night they returned to Memorial Stadium to watch another grandson play for Omaha Skutt, as the Skyhawks tried to defeat Aurora for the Class B state title.
Their grandson, Ty Uhing, who is a sophomore, will be suited up for the Cedar Catholic football game. He is the son of Mike and Kathy Uhing.
Grandson Marcus Wilcox, son of Ken and Linda Wilcox, is a senior with the Norfolk Catholic team.
Sophomore Tommy Vollmer, another grandson, plays for Skutt Catholic in Omaha. He is the son of Dennis and Barb Vollmer.
“It will be an all-day affair for our family,” Alice said prior to heading to Lincoln. “We are excited. We will be going to one game right after the other.”
Prior to the game they were still trying to figure out what clothes to wear to best support their grandchildren.
“We could wear red shirts for Cedar and Norfolk Catholic and green caps for Skutt,” Jerome said.
Tuesday’s games will be a family reunion of sorts as five of the six children of Jerome and Alice will be at the games on Nov 22.
