HARTINGTON – A Magnet man is facing a felony assault charge after he allegedly struck a woman, causing a serious head injury.
Eric D. Wright, 38, was charged with first-degree assault, a Class II felony, and misdemeanors assault backing bodily injury and disturbing the peace for the incident which allegedly occurred last week.
According to court documents, the woman allegedly was trying to wake up Wright for work when an argument ensued. After the assault, Wright left to go to work and the woman went to the hospital with a possible brain bleed.
He was arrested when he returned to the Magnet residence later that evening.
A preliminary hearing will be heard in Cedar County Court Dec. 5. As currently charged, Wright faces a minimum penalty of one year in prison and a maximum penalty of 50 years.
In other court news: - Todd Heikes, 36, Hartington, did not appear in Cedar County Court for a scheduled hearing. He is charged with child abuse and disturbing the peace.
- Izabella Nissen, 22, Yankton, S.D., pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace and a domestic assault charge was dismissed. She was fined $200.
