Cedar lands 10 on All District team

HARTINGTON - Cedar Catholic head football coach Chad Cattau announced the 2024 C2-3 All-District Football Team as voted on by the district coaches.

The Trojans had 10 players named on the All-District and honorable mention lists, five on each list.

Jaymison Cattau, Ryan Pick, Jacob Steffen, Braeden Reifenrath and Breiton Whitmire were named to the All-District First Team and Brady Hochstein, Keyton Arens, Will Steffen. Jared Rutar and Hunter Bensen achieved honorable mention status.

Coach Cattau said it was nice to see these athletes honored for their hard work and extraordinary effort on the football field.

The coach had this to say about each of the players honored: Jaymison Cattau - “Jaymison has been a weapon for us on both sides of the ball since his sophomore season. He became a good player for us during his four years. He was a very reliable receiver and was able to play multiple positions on both sides of the ball when needed. He is a repeat first-team selection.”

Ryan Pick - “Ryan has been our most consistent lineman the past two seasons and he really had a great year for us again this year. He led us in “pancake” blocks almost every week and was doubleteamed on most running plays this year as a defensive tackle. Ryan was also one of our vocal leaders which he really excelled at.”

Jacob Steffen - “Jacob had a bit of a breakout season. He led us with five sacks and he also recorded another five tackles for a loss. He also had to play multiple positions on the offensive line, which is very difficult, during the season because of rotations and injuries.”

Braeden Reifenrath - “Braeden was a returning starter at quarterback and he really stepped up his game, especially at the end of the season. He has been a very consistent player since taking over the starting spot late in his sophomore season. He also played a pivotal part as a corner in some big situations during the season.”

Breiton Whitmire - “Breiton really showed his true abilities this year on both sides of the ball. He is an excellent athlete that was able to make some very explosive plays for us this year. He became a home run threat when he was able to get into space with the ball and he also learned how to a be more physical runner between the tackles. He also provided some excellent plays at corner for us on the defensive side of the ball and he was an excellent return man for us in the kicking game.”

Brady Hochstein - “Brady had a great season for us. He led us in tackles and was a threat from the fullback position. He was our most consistent defensive player all season and he was very difficult for other teams to block.”

Hunter Bensen - “Hunter was asked to do a lot of different things this year on both sides of the ball. Offensively he played multiple positions and he showed a great amount of growth at all of them. He provided some excellent plays on the defensive side of the ball whether he was playing at the line of scrimmage or in the secondary.”

Will Steffen - “Will was a very consistent lineman for us on both sides of the ball. His ability at nose tackle allowed other guys to make some plays because he was double teamed a lot. He also became a very good run blocker and pass protector on the offensi ve side of the ball.”

Keyton Arens - “After battling an injury during the off season, Keyton really recovered and played well for us. He was a reliable tackler and he became a good route runner and made some big catches for us, especially late in the season.”

Jared Rutar - “Jared was asked to play a variety of positions on defense and it really showed his versatility as an athlete. He played inside linebacker, defensive tackle and our edge position so we were able to move him around a lot on defense. On offense he was a very good blocker in both the running and passing games.”
