WAYNE — On Friday at the Nebraska School Counseling Academy conference, Wayne State College honored Ken Kneifl, School Counselor at Hartington-Newcastle Public Schools, with the 2024 Nebraska State College System Counseling Excellence Award.
Kneifl has dedicated more than 30 years to school counseling, first working in elementary counseling before moving to high school at Hartington-Newcastle Public Schools.
Starting his career in education as a teacher at Wynot, Beemer, and Holy Trinity schools, he later earned his Master’s in School Counseling from Wayne State College, making a lasting impact on students’ lives ever since.
“Ken has gracefully adapted to every change, from evolving technology to addressing rising mental health challenges among youth, always placing his students first,” said Amy Gade, admissions director at Wayne State.
Chancellor Paul Turman underscored the vital role of high school counselors.
“High school counselors like Mr. Kneifl play a central role in shaping students’ futures, supporting them through their educational journeys, and preparing them for success beyond high school,” Turman said. “We are deeply grateful for his dedication and are honored to recognize his contributions to Nebraska’s students.”
