McGregor, Bernecker, Hochstein receive recognition

HARTINGTON - Cedar Catholic had three Lady Trojans receive post-season recognition by the Mid-State Conference volleyball coaches.

Melayna McGregor was named to the all-conference squad while Lauren Bernecker and Bailey Hochstein were tabbed honorable mention by the coaches.

“All three of these players were on the court most all of the time and we leaned on them heavily down the stretch,” Cedar Catholic coach Denae Buss said. “Although I would say we were a very well-rounded team, I think we could have had more make these lists, our conference just did amazing things, each team had five or six players that were really deserving just like us.”

McGregor was a Swiss Army Knife for Buss and the Lady Trojans.

“Melayna did all the things, set, hit, served, blocked, defense serve receive,” said her coach. “She had to do all the skills and do them well. She was a three-year starter for us.”

Bernecker was steady.

“I call her ‘Miss Consistent’, her attitude is consistent, hitting. blocking, serve receiving, serving,” said Buss. “She does all things well and you always know what you will get when Lauren is on the floor.”

Hochstein paced the Lady Trojan defense in the back row.

“She came on strong and decided every dig she could get her hands on were hers,” Buss said. “She took a big load serve receiving and dug so many balls throughout the end of our season.”
