RANDOLPH – Randolph voters have chosen two new city council members.
Todd Greiner and Brandon Backhaus were elected to four-year terms on the council starting in December.
They take over for Janelle Biernbaum and Ted Stubbs who did not run for re-election.
Greiner came in first, pulling in 314 votes, followed by Backhaus with 270 votes. Tom Wiese netted 167 votes and Kayla Korth came up short with 131 votes. “I’m looking forward to get to work for the progress of the community,” Greiner said after hearing the election results last week. Backhaus said he’s also ready for another city council term, having previously served on the council 2018-22.
“I will do my part to focus on the best interests of our city and community members as we pave the way for the future of Randolph,” he said.
Both men expressed gratitude to those who voted them into office.
While Korth didn’t succeed in her campaign, she said she is still happy with the election results.
“Truthfully all candidates have the best intentions for our community,” she said.
Wiese agreed. “Congratulations to Todd and Brandon. I know they’ll do great in their seats,” he said.
Korth said she’s unsure if she will make another run for a city council seat in the future but said she will continue to speak up when it comes to city matters.
Greiner is employed as a deputy with the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office.
He has previously served as Randolph Police Chief 2015-2017. He currently serves on the Randolph Volunteer Fire Department.
Backhaus has lived in Randolph for 13 years, graduating from Randolph High School in 1999.
He has three children and is active in the Randolph Volunteer Fire Department. He is the sales manager for Eagle Distributing of Nebraska.
