Hunters urged to test deer for CWD

LINCOLN — The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is encouraging hunters in six deer management units to bring their harvest to in-person check stations for chronic wasting disease testing during the upcoming firearm deer season.

Sampling will be free for up to 300 deer per unit; deer that already have been Telechecked may still be part of the sample as long as the head and neck are still available and can be brought with the deer’s seal number to a check station staffed by Game and Parks. The Commission aim to collect between 230 to 300 deer samples per unit from male or female deer 1.5 years of age or older.

The deer management units where CWD testing will take place include: Missouri Elkhorn Loup East Wahoo Blue Northwest Blue Southeast Check stations collecting lymph nodes from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov.
