Young Laurel football players compete in All Star game

LAUREL — For the fourth year in a row, the Summer Recreation Program had a football league with head coach Craig Gowery and his two assistants Michael Klug and Wes Wortman.

The league consisted of two divisions. Wynot, Stanton, Laurel, and Elkhorn Valley on one team and Creighton, Plainview, Summerland, Wausa/Osmond the other team.

Each team played the players in their division which then led to their rankings for the playoff bracket. After the playoff bracket was complete, each team played a total of six games.

This year’s champion was Wynot. After the season was over, the decision was made to have the first all star game where the teams picked the top sixth graders from each.

That game was held Oct. 20 in Osmond. The Laurel division won the game 51-0.
