Season ends with district losses

WYNOT - The Randolph Lady Cardinal volleyball team was bounced from the D2-3 Sub-District Tournament here on Oct. 28 when it was defeated by Bancroft-Rosalie 25-10, 25-16 and 25-15 to end the season with a 3-25 record.

“We fought the entire match and played real hard,” said Lady Cardinal coach Lyndsee English. “We had a few calls that went against us early in the match and I thought it affected us mentally. I was pleased to see the ‘never give up’ attitude the girls displayed in this match and all season.”

Alexis Backhaus led Randolph from the service line with four aces in the match. Mabel Ngebeh, Jenna Guenther and Sydney Robinson each had two kills on the ev ening. Brooke Meier and Lilly Kuchta had one apiece.

“I would have liked to have seen us get the ball to Mabel and Lilly more offensively,” English said. “We just seemed to struggle in areas that we don’t usually struggle.”

Defensively, Backhaus recorded 10 digs, Nge beh added nine and Kuchta had seven.

Wynot won the Sub-District and moved on to a district contest where the Lady Blue Devils defeated Sumner-Eddyville-Miller 3-1 to earn a spot in this week’s Nebraska Class D2 Volleyball Championships.

“We may have not had the record we desired, but the team showed improvement throughout the season,” English said. “The girls should be proud of the growth they had from the begin ning of the season, not only physically but mentally They seemed to struggle to finish games for a while and it is that mental aspect of the game we need to work on. It was great to see them get a few wins later in the season to prove to them they could do it. We kept reminding them to believe in themselves as much as we believe in them, that they are better than what they think they are. One of the best things is we bring the entire team back next year. ”

Bancroft-Rosalie defeats Randolph 25-10, 25-16, 25-15.
