Special activities planned for Monday celebrations
HARTINGTON — Area residents will have several chances to remember and honor veterans with special Veterans Day activities here next week.
This year's Veterans Day program is going to be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 11, in the Hartington community.
The community celebration will be moved from its usual site at the Cedar County Courthouse memorial to the new Hartington Area Veterans Memorial in downtown Hartington.
On Monday, at 1 p.m., the public is invited to attend the downtown ceremony, where the names of all the fallen will be read off. 'Taps' will also be played to salute the fallen.
In case of inclement weather, the program will be switched to the VFW Club.
Veterans will put on another event at the Arbor Care Center at 2 p.m.
The community is also invited to participate in the annual Veterans Day program at 2:45 p.m., Monday, in the Cedar Catholic school gym.
Roy Creekmore, Hartington, will be the featured speaker at the program, which also features music from both Cedar Catholic and Hartington-Newcastle students.
Veterans and other community volunteers are urged to help put flags up for the celebration on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m..
A special Veterans Day supper will be held at the VFW Monday, beginning with a 5:30 p.m. social hour and followed by the meal at 6:15 p.m.
The meal is being catered by Merkel Catering. To reserve a spot for the meal, please contact Dean McGregor, at 402-841-7871.
The flags will fly throughout the weekend and will be taken down by a volunteer crew on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
