CROFTON — Druggist O.W. Cass and Crofton Journal Editor H.M.
Cooley were drowned when their car went into the Missouri River yesterday morning. O.D. Salley and L.S.
Ross, also of Crofton, escaped from the scene of the accident.
Coroner Bange was notified soon after the accident and with Sheriff McFadden and County Attorney O’Gara went immediately to the scene of the accident.
From those who were on the ground early after the accident, the particulars are gleaned as nearly as may ever be known, in all probability.
The party was returning in the late night or early morning from a lodge meeting at Yankton.
Mr. Cass was driving his new Ford. He is said to have been somewhat inclined to speed. Within 30 feet of the Nebraska shore something went wrong. The car at any rate jumped a large timber which acts as a bottom guard rail and broke down the light, higher rail.
The two men who were lost were both unable to swim. Perhaps, they were injured, too. It is often difficult for a driver to extricate himself from his car. The other two were good swimmers, but a short distance to go to make it to shore and they succeeded in making it to land. Mr.
Cass was a druggist at Crofton and leaves a wife behind. Editor Cooley leaves four children, his wife having died about a year ago. Both were men of the highest character as citizens, and the traded by is keenly felt by their wide circle of friends.

Hirschman. Henry Korff, Democrat, will represent Cedar County and J.H. Reifenrath, Democrat, will represent Cedar and Knox counties.
H.C. Beaty, Republican of Laurel, will become a resident of Hartington as County Clerk.
F.W. Barnhart, Republican ex-Post Master at Hartington, will be a new face in the Courthouse as the new Cedar County Treasurer. D.E.
McFadden remains Sheriff after having gone up against the hardest fight and the closest run of his political career.
A.W. Jones, Democrat, had no opposition for Commissioner in the North District. Jorgenson, Democrat will represent the South District, and Samlson, a Republican, will represent the Middle District.
It won’t be known until the official count whether township organization won or lost. At this point, the odds seem to be that it was defeated. Nov. 5, 1914
