HARTINGTON — Hartington outdoor writer Gary Howey attended the 1984 South Dakota Governor’s Hunt near Pierre, S.D. from Oct. 2628. Others attending the hunt included former All Pro linebacker Wally Hilgenberg of the Minnesota Vikings, Wayne Rasmussen, former All Pro safety for the Detroit Lions, and John Havlicek, former All Pro with the world champion Boston Celtics.

HARTINGTON — One area teen died and three were seriously injured as the result of a Sunday morning car crash. Kyle Neuhalfen, 19, Coleridge, died Tuesday at Marian Health Center in Sioux City, Iowa. David Cummins, Hartington; Brandon Hansen, 18, Coleridge; and Jeremy Wynia, 18, Hartington, were all transported to area hospitals after the accident, along with Neuhalfen.

HARTINGTON — A select group of America’s teachers are being honored by their toughest critics, their former students, in the third edition of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, 1994. HARTINGTON—Saying they could no longer tolerate the lifestyle and work ethic of Sheriff Loren Trautman, Cedar County Commissioners evicted the sheriff from his county-owned quarters and agreed to compensate deputies who have been filling in for him.

HARTINGTON—The walls of the old Hartington Feed and Chick building came tumbling down. The new owners, Gary and Lisa Kruse had the building razed.

HARTINGTON—The Cedar Catholic Trojans closed out the 1999 regular season with a four overtime epic loss to rival Crofton. Crofton, the 1999 Northeast Nebraska Athletic Conference champions, won the contest by a mere point, 31-30.

WYNOT—The Wynot Blue Devils downed the Wausa Vikings 36-6 in Lewis and Clark League action. They will be matched up against Petersburg in a state qualifying game.

HARTINGTON—The Hartington Wildcats started off slowly, allowing the Creighton Bulldogs to earn a big half-time lead and go on to claim a 40-12 non-conference win to close out the season.

ST. HELENA—An out of control fire wiped out acres of pasture land and conservation land north of here last week. The blaze was located two miles north of St. Helena near the Stratman farm.

WYNOT—A shortage of priests will force an area church to close next summer and three other churches will begin sharing a priest, according to a letter from the Archbishop of the Omaha diocese. Sts. Philip and James Parish will be closed and the people will become members of Sacred Heart Parish, Wynot.
