PENDER – The Randolph Cardinals and Lady Cardinal cross country teams closed out the 2024 season at Twin Creeks Golf Course Oct. 17.
Kamdin and Brayden Worlein posted their best times of the season and Brecken Shearer crossed the mat in 25-minutes, 3.36-seconds to place 55th, just one spot in front of Brayden Worlein who covered the 5 kilometers in 25:55.50.
Kamdin Worlein used a 22:44.54 to place 48th. Ponca’s Gannon Pfister won the boys division with a time of 17:28.74 with Andrew Kastl of Norfolk Catholic second in 17:32.62 and Preston Rose of Laurel-Concord-Coleridge third in 17:46.77.
Homer won the team title with 19 points, Norfolk Catholic was second with 22 and Ponca grabbed the last team spot for this week’s state meet in Kearney with 25 points.
Lady Cardinal Emily Gilliland, nusing a leg injury, gutted out a 25:54.13 to place 40th.
Ava Brennan of Ponca was the medalist in 20:07.42; Cecilia Wortman of Crofton was second in 20:39.62 and Pender’s Kyla Krusemark was third in 20:46.58.
The Lady Pendragons won the team title with 14 points; Crofton was second with 19 and Homer was the final team qualifier with 32.
“All of our runners return next year, so I’m looking forward to seeing them progress from here,” said Coach Tom Shafer.
