PENDER - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge cross country teams competed in the D-2 District Meet on Oct. 17 at the Twin Creeks Golf Course here.
The Bears and Lady Bears each ended up fifth in the team standings in their respective divisions and with the top three teams in each division moving on to this week’s Nebraska Cross Country Championships, the meet ended the season for all but one LCC runner.
Preston Rose parlayed a third-place individual performance into a ticket to the Kearney Country Club Oct. 25 to run for some state hardware.
Homer grabbed the district title in the boys’ race with 19 points, Norfolk Catholic was second with 22 and Ponca earned the final spot in Kearney with 25 points.
The Bears tallied 46 points. Gannon Pfister of Ponca won the individual title with a time of 17-minutes, 28.74-seconds, Norfolk Catholic’s Andrew Kastl was second in 17:32.62 with Rose taking third in 17:46.77. The top 10 individuals qualified to run at state.
Carter Korth came in 21st at 19:14.51, Shane Langford was right behind Korth in 19:14.52, John McDermott was 41st in 21:19.09 and Sebastian Van Drongelen was 47th in 22:24.63.
Pender earned the title in the girls’ race with 14 points, Crofton was second with 19 and Homer was third with 32. The Lady Bears posted 59 for their fifth-place showing.
Ava Brennan of Ponca won the individual championship with a time of 20:07.42, Cecilia Wortmann of Crofton was the runner-up in 20:39.62 and Pender’s Kyla Krusematk was third with a time of 20:46.58.
Kate Tasler was the first Lady Bear to get to the mat, coming in 14th with a time of 21:35.45 to earn a trip to the state meet.
Faith Galvin was next at 22nd, Addy Hoeppner was 26th, Abbie Brummels was 27th and Leah Gould was 32nd.
Rose and Tasler are set to run at the State meet in Kearney Oct. 25 with the Class D boys race getting underway at 2:30 p.m. and girls at 3:30 p.m.
