LAUREL - The Stanton Mustangs rolled into Laurel for a date with Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears on Oct. 18 with an unbeaten record and the No. 1 rating in Class D1 football.
They rolled out of town still unbeaten and did nothing to disprove the lofty ranking.
In fact, the Mustangs led 56-0 at the end of the first 12 minutes of the game.
The Bears did get some offense going in the second half, but the damage was done and their season ended with a 1-7 record while the Mustangs will move on to defend their D-1 state title from last year in the 2024 D1 playoffs.
After trailing by 56-0 halftime score, Eli Haisch got things started for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge with a 12-yard dash to the end zone.
Haisch would score again later in the period and the teams headed to the fourth with the Bears trailing 56-14.
Stanton answered early in the fourth to go up 64-14, but Tyler Boysen scored from 15 yards out for LCC to make it 64-20.
The Mustangs ran back the kickoff following Boysen’s run and the score went up to 70-20.
Josiah Tasler put a cap on the scoring and the Bears season, hauling in a 23-yard Talon Carson aerial for a touchdown and the final score was set.
Haisch finished the night with 89 yards on his 21 carries and the two touchdowns. Connor Korth ran for 47 yards on 11 carries and Boysen had a couple of carries for 19 yards including the touchdown from the 15.
Korth completed three passes for nine yards with Ryder Jelinek catching two passes for the nine yards and Haisch hauling in one for no gain.
Defensively, Korth recorded five tackles with one behind the line of scrimmage, Haisch had a couple of stops Dayton Korth had three and Kolton Settje had one tackle for a loss.
