Area residents vie for seat on CKPPD Board

HARTINGOTN — An open seat on the Cedar Knox Public Power District Board is drawing quite a bit of attention.

Three candidates have filed to represent Subdivision 2 on the Cedar Knox Public Power District Board.

Mike Korth of Randolph, Doug Miller of Hartington, and Kevin Nordby of Laurel are all seeking to fill the six-year term on the board.

The seat for Subdivision I is also up for election this year. Ed Lammers, Hartington, is running unopposed for that seat.

Korth is a lifelong Randolph area farmer.

Korth said as a farmer, he has had extensive experience being involved in several different agricultural boards and committees. He has served on: Cedar County Farm Bureau, Corngrowers Association, National Biodiesel Board, US Meat Export Federation, USA Poultry & Ag Council, Soy Transportation Board, United States Soybean Export Council, Nebraska Soybean Checkoff, and United Soybean Board.

Korth said his extensive board experience mopre than qualifies him for this position.

Korth said he wants a seat on the board to help insure CKPPD continues to run smoothly.

'It is one of the best run Nebraska public utility companies,' and he wants to help to continue that trend.

Korth, who was asked to run for the board by 'a couple of current board members,' calls himself fiscally conservative and brings that to the table as well.

Doug Miller is a former line foreman for Cedar-Knox Public Power District.

He retired in June after 35 years at Cedar Knox.

Miller is also a former member of the Hartington Public School Board.

He said he is running for office because of his “desire to continue to be a part of this company (Cedar-Knox PPD) and field of work by contributing to the role and duties of a board member.”

He hopes to provide perspective as a customer of Cedar-Knox Public Power District as well as utilize the knowledge he gained as a line foreman.

Miller said his knowledge of the work that has been completed in the area, substations, circuits feeding customers and towns, and how new construction of three-phase and transmission lines are currently being done will be helpful on the board.

Miller said he ha been impressed by past board members and was inspired to run for the board by the work done by current and past board members.

Kevin Nordby, Laurel, has worked at Security Bank in Laurel since September of 2005. He has been a Loan Officer with Security Bank since he graduated with a Finance Degree from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. He specializes in ag and commercial loans and serves on the bank’s Executive Loan Committee.

He was raised in Coleridge and was very excited to be able to come back after college to live in a rural community. Kevin and his wife, Laura, have two children.

He has been involved in numerous community activities such as serving on the Laurel Community Chamber board, Cedar View Country Club board, and most recently being the Chairman of the Community Redevelopment Authority.
