HARTINGTON — No matter how the rest of the season goes, the 2024 Hartington-Newcastle Wildcat football team is already poised to finish as one of the top teams in Wildcat history.
The team has compiled an impressive 7-1 record to date and has qualified for the Class
D1 playoffs as the fifth seed. In the last 70 years, only four Wildcat teams have finished the season with more than seven wins. Records prior to 1950 are incomplete.
The 2012 team and the 1971 team currently stand out as the top teams in school history, as both finished the season with 9-1 records.
This year’s Wildcat team should also finish out the season with one of the most explosive offenses in school history.
To date, the 2024 ‘Cats have rolled up 434 points — an averge of 54.25 per game — the highest total ever produced by a Wildcat football team.
This year’s team also produced the highest scoring game in school history — an 82-0 win over Lutheran High Northeast back in September.
