WALTHILL - A big first half propelled the Randolph Cardinals to their first win on the gridiron this season as the Cardinals handled Walthill here 44-12 after taking a 38-0 lead into the halftime break.
Dayton Winkelbauer got the party started in the opening 12 minutes with a 16-yard dash to the endzone and after Milo Rayford took the ball in on the conversion run, the Cardinals were up 8-0.
Tate Brodersen blasted in from a yard out later in the quarter and the teams went to the second frame with Randolph in front 14-0.
Winkelbauer scored his second rushing touchdown after the Cardinals got a safety from the three and after the conversion try was no good, the lead grew to 22-0.
Kody Junck recorded the safety when he tackled the Blujay quarterback in the endzone for a sack and the two points.
Ryan Engel got into scoring in the third gathering in a Winkebauer aerial from the five, Rayford added the two-point run and the score was up to 30-0.
The Cardinal defense got in on the scoring action towards the end of the frame when Bentley Reimers took a Blujay pass to the endzone with an interception and run of 20 yards. Brodersen ran in the twopoint try and the halftime score was set.
Winkelbauer threw his second touchdown pass in the third quarter, this one to Gavin Wortman who hauled it in and scored from 13 yards away and the Randolph scoring was done for the evening.
Walthill scored a couple of cosmetic touchdowns on a couple of passes, the last one halting the continuous clock late in the game, but the outcome was already secured.
Winklebauer had his hands in four touchdowns on the night, two by land and two through the air. Rayford was the leading rusher accumulating 56 yards on his 20 carries while Engel accounted for 52 yards on four catches and scored the one touchdown.
