Bears and Lady Bears finish second in inaugural GNAC race

PLAINVIEW - The Laurel-Concord- Coleridge Bears and Lady Bears cross country team appear to be hitting their collective strides at the right time of the season as both harrier teams finished second in the first-ever Greater Northeast Activities Conference Meet of any kind.

The Bears were behind Hartington- Newcastle which won with 12 team points to the Bears 18, the Lady Bears trailed West Holt by just two points, 21-23, to bring home the silver plaque in the girls’ division.

The Bears were paced by Preston Rose who came in second individually with a time of 18-minutes, 43.88-seconds. Drew Martin of West Holt was the champion in 17:58.83.

Carter Korth brought home some hardware with a sixth-place showing in 19:33.11 and Shane Langford was 10th in 19:51.01.

John McDermott was 21st for LCC, Luke Jackson was 25th and Sebastian Van Drogelen came in 26th.

For the Lady Bears, Faith Galvin was the top finisher coming in sixth with a time of 22:59.45. Right on her heels was teammate, Kate Tasler, who placed seventh in 23:02.16.

Abbie Brummels was 13th, Addy Hoeppner was 15th, Leah Gould was 21st and Ava Christensen was 24th.

Mazzy Kuchar of Elkhorn Valley was the medallist with a time of 20:52.94 and Callie Fischer of Lutheran High Northeast was second in 21:03.26.

The Bears and Lady Bears will be running in the D-2 District Cross Country Meet on Oct. 17 at Twin Creeks Golf Course north of Pender.

The top three teams in the district meet will advance to the State Cross Country meet Oct. 25 at the Kearney Country Club in Kearney.
