1984: School Board races draw quite a few candidates

Oct. 25, 1984

LAUREL — Five girls graduated to the junior Girl Scout level in Fly-Up and Rededication Ceremonies held Monday night in Laurel.

Girls receiving their junior fly-up were Heather Haller, Brandi Mathiason, Heidi Reinoehl, Betsy Adkins and April Wickett. Group leaders were Marietta Freeman and Jeri Ek.

Oct. 25, 1984

LAUREL — Jim Pehrson represented Laurel well Friday at the state cross-country meet in Kearney.

He earned an outstanding fourth place finish among 69 class C runners in a career-best performance of 18:22 over the 5,000 meter Kearney course.

Oct. 31, 1984

HARTINGTON — School Board races in Hartington and Wynot are the only locally contested elections on the ballot this year.

Three people will be elected to the District 8 Hartington School Board from among the six candidates on the ballot. Those candidates are: incumbent Victor Nissen, Timothy N. Kuchta, Steve Seim, incumbent June Stockwell, Lee Rose and Dennis DeBlauw.

Four candidates are on the ballot in District 101 in Wynot. Only three can be elected, however. Those running in Wynot are: incumbents Charles Foxhoven, Louis Hans and John A. Thoene, Jr. Cheryl Pinkelman is challenging for a spot on the Board.

Oct. 31, 1984

HARTINGTON — Cheryl Hesse of Crofton and Paul Steffen of Hartington were welcomed as new members of the Articulators Toastmasters Club of Hartington at the group’s Oct. 15 meeting.
