Cedar golf season ends at District meet

WAYNE — The Cedar Catholic girls golf team ended their season in the C-3 District Meet here at the Wayne Country Club Oct. 8 with a ninth-place showing in the 18-hole event after firing a 472.

Wayne won the team title with a four-golfer total of 378, Laurel-Concord- Coleridge was second 20 shots behind the Lady Blue Devils and West Holt was third with a 403 as the top three teams qualified for the Class C State Golf Championships Oct. 14 and 15 at the Lake Maloney Golf Course in North Platte.

“Coming into the season we really didn’t have a lot of varsity experience,” Cedar Catholic coach Sheila Jueden said. “We had a lot of problems putting and chipping all day, I guess.”

Daneli Knust of West Holt took the top spot in the individual portion of the meet as the top 10 individuals and ties moved on to North Platte.

Knust came in with an 84 which was four shots in front of Wayne’s Joslyn Johnson who carded an 88.

Johnson’s teammate, Carli Carnham was third at 90, Rylee Altwine of Pierce was fourth with a 91 and LCC’s Harper Bruning was fifth after firing a 95.

Camryn Loecker was the top Lady Trojan finisher after coming in with a 108 to place 21st, Josie Heine and Maggie Dendinger were 37th and 38th respectively after each shot a 120, Olvia Kleinschmit was 47th with a 124 and Lauren Potts was 56th after shooting a 132.

“Camryn came- through today but I know Maggie felt really bad about her game today,” Jueden said. “But that’s golf, some days you have it and some days you don’t, we kind of had a collective bad day today.”
