Laurel Tree Board plants trees at softball field

LAUREL —It’s been said, ‘The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago’. For the games and tournaments, softball teams and their families, who have wished for some shade at the Laurel Softball field, the ‘shade’ is finally underway.

The Laurel Youth Rec Board moved the softball field on Spruce Street further east to allow for more room for teams and their families. The extra space along the west side was used for the Laurel Tree Board to plant five Linden trees along Spruce St.

Linden trees grow about one to two feet per year, so it will still be a while before the trees will be tall enough to provide a lot of shade, but the comfort level from the shade provided will grow every year with the growing trees.
