Wynot girls complete a busy run

WYNOT — Wynot completed a busy week against some fairly competent competition and finished the week 2-3 dropping a regular season match to Homer on Oct. 3 and dropping two of three matches over the weekend in the Clarkson/ Leigh Tournament to drop to 9-6 on the season after defeating Tri County Northeast back on Oct. 1.

In the tournament at Clarkson-Leigh, the Lady Blue Devils opened with 2-1 win over Pender to open the day, but dropped consecutive matches to Howells-Dodge 2-1 and Clarkson/Leigh 2-0 Earlier in the week, Wynot was swept at Homer 3-0 in Lewis & Clark regular season action.

Statistics for these four matches were not available at press time.

On Oct. 1, the Lady Blue Devils welcomed L&C opponent Tri County Northeast to Wynot and turned away the Wolfpack, 25-16, 25-23, 15-25 and 25-15.

Kenna Oligmueller paced the Wynot attack with 19 kills on the night, Joslyn Hochstein added nine winners.

Sophia Geisen tipped up 40 set assists and rifled four ace serves in the match. Oligmueller also hammered six aces at the service line.

Jordan Foxhoven recorded 17 digs, Jaylin Geisen added 11 and Haley Wieseler tacked on eight.

Kenna Oligmueller and Sophia Geisen had a match for the ages when their Wynot team welcomed in the Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars on Sept. 24 Oligmueller ended up with 30 kills and Geisen tipped up 45 set assists in the match as the Lady Blue Devils outlasted the Lady Cougars in a match that went to final race to 15 before Wynot came away with the hard fought win.

(This match was played back on Sept. 24) Wynot won the first set 25-22, but LDNE won sets two and three 25-23 and 25-17 to force the Lady Blue Devils to win set four to have a chance to win the match and extend it to a fifth set.

Oligmueller, Geisen and company responded to take the fourth set 25-18 then took the sprint to 15 by the final score of 15-9 to take the match.

Oligmueller made it a double-double with 10 digs on the night and Geisen combined with her sister Jaylin to record four and three ace serves respectively.

Haley Wieseler had 16 digs while Jaylin Geisen accumulated 15 digs.

The Lady Blue Devils were set for a triangular in Ponca with the Lady Indians and Cedar Catholic on Oct. 10 before playing in the Wisner-Pilger Invitational on Oct. 12.
