Lady Cats climb out of losing skid

WAKEFIELD - After dropping seven straight matches, the Hartington-Newcastle Lady Wildcat volleyball team broke through with a win here in a triangular, turning away Wausa 26-24 and 25-20 in the Lady Wildcats first match of the triangular.

Wakefield defeated the Lady Wildcats 22-25, 25-13 and 25-23 in their second match of the night on Oct. 1.

On Oct. 3, Hartington-Newcastle traveled to Plainview for a Greater Northeast Activities Conference match up with the Lady Pirates and came up short after winning the first set 25-18.

Plainview responded and took set two 25-19, set three 25-21 and the deciding set four, 25-13.

McKenzie Bruning had a good night at the net with 11 kills in the match. Ella Eickhoff and Maddie Steffen each added five and Karissa Bruning slammed four.

Vayda Lippert had three ace serves and tipped up 17 set assists, Hazel Hochstein had a dozen assists.

Defensively, McKenzie Bruning and Steffen each had 15 digs to earn Bruning a double-double with her 11 slams.

Lippert had 14 digs to get her double-double along with her assists and Abi Rice hit double digits with 10 digs.

Eickhoff rejected five shots at the net, the Bruning sisters each had a couple of blocks.

McKenzie Bruning led the attack in the win over the Lady Vikings slamming down nine kills.

Steffen added six , Eickhoff had four and Lippert and Cohen Paden each had three.

Paden, Lippert and McKenzie Bruning each had a couple of ace serves.

Lippert added 13 assists to her match, Hochstein tipped up five.
