Cedar County News Publisher elected to national board

OMAHA — Cedar County News co-Publisher Peggy Year was recently elected to the National Newspaper Association Board of Directors. Year, who served on the convention committee to help organize this year’s national event, was elected during the NNA National Convention here Sept. 26. She will serve a one-year term on the board.

The National Newspaper Association is comprised of weekly and daily newspapers from across the country. The organization was created to help protect, promote and enhance community newspapers since 1885.

Another Nebraskan, Blair Enterprise Publisher Mark Rhodes, was elected to the National Newspaper Association Foundation during the group’s annual convention.

Year comes to the position with plenty of experience on newspaper association boards.

She served on the Nebraska Press Association Board of Directors from 2013-2019 and served as NPA President in 2018.

As NPA President, she helped create the ThinkFirst campaign, with Media of Nebraska, to educate the public about the importance of the First Amendment.

She has been serving on the Board of Directors for the Nebraska Press Association Foundation since 2022 and is currently serving a one-year term as Vice President of the Foundation After working in such varied positions as an air photo interpreter, director of an art museum, and as a college professor, she began her newspaper career in 1992, when she and her husband, Rob Dump, purchased the Cedar County News in Hartington.

The couple then formed the Northeast Nebraska News Company and purchased five more newspapers over the next 12 years.
