LCC Bears let one slip away

LAUREL - Laurel-Concord-Coleridge looked ready to post its second win of the season at Haskell Field here Sept. 27, but Elkhorn Valley had other plans for the outcome of the game, which the Falcons won 46-32.

The Bears and Falcons were deadlocked 8-8 at the end of the first 12 minutes, but two second quarter touchdowns gave LCC the momentum at the intermission.

Elkhorn Valley answered with a couple of touchdowns in the third quarter, but an Eli Haisch dash to the end zone from 33 yards away put the Bears back in front,32-22 with just 12 minutes left to play.

A long pass play by the Falcons early in the fourth period made it 32-30 after a successful conversion and when the dust settled on the quarter, they had scored 24 straight points including an interception return for a touchdown late in the game.

Connor Korth got things started for the Bears taking off on a 49-yard scamper to the end zone and LCC was in front 6-0 after a conversion try failed.

Later in the first frame, Cade Johnson tackled a Falcon runner in the end zone for a safety and the score was tied at the end of the first.

Korth then connected with Kyle Rasmussen for a 7-yard touchdown then hit Drey Puppe for the conversion and the Bears were up 16-8.

Haisch got into the act next, scoring his first touchdown of the night just before the intermission on a 17-yard run, Korth ran in the conversion and the teams headed to the break with Laurel-Concord-Coleridge in front, 24-8.

Excluding Haisch’s run in the third quarter, the rest of the scoring came from the Falcons.

Haisch and Korth had productive nights running the football with Haisch picking up 105 yards on 22 carries and Korth accumulated 107 on just 13 totes.

Korth also finished the night 8-for-16 through the air for 82 yards and the one touchdown to Ramussen,but he was picked off twice.

Korth also paced the defense with 10 tackles including nine solo stops. Haisch and Tanner Thompson each had five tackles and Johnson’s tackle picked up the safety.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge will try to get back on track on the road at Plainview Oct. 4.
