WAYNE — Juli Burney, a native of Hartington, will entertain andmotivate this year’s attendees at ninth annual Pink Flamingo Nite at OurSavior Lutheran Church, Wayne.
The event, which started to increase awareness and funds for the oncology department at Providence Medical Center, is themed “Tickled Pink,” and will be Oct. 17.
Burney is a motivational humorist, communication specialist, author and retired assistant professor.
Burney has a master of arts degree and is a multiple award winning retired college professor, communication specialist, humorist and author. She makes an amazing connection with her audiences and is able to entertain with the ability of a headlining comedian while either motivating or training with ease as a nationally renowned speaker.
According to her resume, “Retiring after 35 years of being a college educator, Juli was named ‘Teacher of the Year’ six times by Doane College(now University). She has been honored by her state as Nebraska Artist ofthe Year and received the Toastmasters’ International Communication and Leadership Award. She has even been inducted into the Nebraska Navy as an Admiral.
“She has worked in 48 states in the continental United States and Canada, and has been commissioned by a variety of associations from theNational Endowment for the Arts to Fortune 500 companies to develop training programs that stick. She has filmed for Showtime and HBO, along with making numerous guest appearances on radio and television programs. Her humor is insightful, delightful, universal and enlightening on any topic she presents.”
Originally from Hartington, Burney is a Wayne State College graduate and past Wayne State Instructor, She now resides in Lincoln.
Tickets for the event are currently on sale at Wayne area banks, local floral shops, Providence Medical Center Wellness Center, Missa Sue’s in Laurel, and at Our Savior Lutheran Church through Oct. 10. A QR code is also available. In addition, a raffle will be held for an afghan and quilt.
The event begins at 5 p.m., with a variety of vendors and a light meal served at 5:30 p.m.
Following music in the sanctuary, a welcome and the awarding of door prizes, introduction of this year’s speaker will take place.
