HARTINGTON — The federal government announced it has granted $745,763 to the Hartington Airport Authority to extend, widen and light the Hartington Airport runway.
The grant money does not come from federal tax revenue, but from an aviation fuel tax and an airline passenger tax, said Dr. Roger Filips, chairman of the Hartington Airport Authority.

HARTINGTON — Bursting at the seams with no other place to go, Cedar County Historical Society members cast a near unanimous vote to expand the facility.
Last Thursday night, members of the Society voted, 22-1, in favor of building a structure next to the current home.

WEEPING WATER — Wildcat coaches and fans were unsure how a long road trip to this southern Nebraska town would affect the team Friday. It looked gloomy at first as the host Indians opened the contest with a 63-yard Rocky Hudson TD run on their first play from scrimmage.
That was about the only Wildcat mistake of the night. The ‘Cats came back to claim a big 26-14 win.

HARTINGTON—The highway urbanization project in Hartington is going well. All driveways on the west side of Highway 15 have been poured and are all open. Driveways on the east side are now being poured. All intersections are also open now, after several days with only limited access out of town.

CROFTON—A Crofton man who was found dead in a parked car outside his residence, died of alcohol poisoning, say police reports. Crofton Police and the ambulance were summoned to the Delmar Walter residence Sept. 23. The body of Kelly Trantina, who lived in the residence, was found in the car.

HARTINGTON — Northern Cedar County has a great deal of potential for tourism, Neb. Dept. of Tourism officials said at a special meeting here last week.
Two Neb. Dept. of Tourism staff members met with about a dozen area residents here Sept. 29 to discuss a recent study they just completed about the tourism potential of this area.
Michael Collins and Paul Bohaty said the area is rich in history that tourists, “would love to learn more about.”

LINCOLN — A Cedar County native whose journalism career spanned the globe, was inducted into the Nebraska Journalism Hall of Fame Friday.
Carroll ‘Cal’ Stewart got an early start in the profession. He began his newspaper career at the age of 10 when he became a printer and later a reporter at his hometown newspaper - the Belden Progress. He joined the Cedar County News staff as editor prior to World War II.
