Tree sales begin - order now to ensure availability

HARTINGTON — Each spring, the Lewis and Clark Natural Resources District distributes tree seedlings and provides planting services for windbreaks, shelterbelts, and wildlife habitat. Seedling orders are accepted now through March 31. If you are interested in a tree belt, planning assistance is available through the local Natural Re- sources Conservation Service o$ces

for preparing a tree planting design that meet your conservation needs.

The cost for seedling trees, shrubs, and native plants is $32.50 for lots of 25 per species. A small acreage package is available, which includes three Blue Spruce, two Bur Oak, two Hackberry, five Chokeberry, five American Plum, and three Redosier Dogwood at $37.50 per package. Coco Tree Mats will be available again this year. They are biodegradable, easy to install, and practical for weed control around seedlings. They are sold per mat with four lightweight staples for $2.25 each or four heavyweight staples for $3 each. Order forms can be found at the LCNRD o$ce in Hartington, NRCS o$ces in Cedar, Knox, or Dixon, or online atlcnrd.nebraska.gov/forestry/ conservation-tree-program. Order forms can be returned to the LCNRD o$ce via mail, drop-o, or phone for credit card orders. Early ordering is encouraged, some species are limited.
