HARTINGTON — Gov. Ben Nelson will be in town Thursday to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Hartington Senior Citizen’s Center.
The Governor will eat lunch at the facility at noon.
He is also expected to speak at the special anniversary celebration.

HARTINGTON — Hot, dry weather helped make Hartington’s fifth annual Hog Holidays a huge success last weekend.
Huge crowds attended all events in the annual town festival, making it the best event in its young history.

HARTINGTON — KN Energy has filed notice to raise local gas rates. The Hartington City Council was made aware of the announcement during a recent Council meeting.
According to a KN Energy press release, the average customer would see a $5.88 per month increase.

HARTINGTON — Cedar Catholic rolled up a huge 35-0 halftime lead before sending in the substitutes and claiming a 42-22 win over Randolph. Cedar’s offensive machine utilized both the passing and running gear to dominate the action early against Coach Lyle Nannen’s Cardinals.

MADISON - The Wildcat football team ran into a big road block during its first road game of the year Friday. The Wildcat offense was stopped, 23-0, by a tough North Platte St. Patrick team. The two teams battled in Madison to keep travel time from being too excessive.

HARTINGTON — School enrollment figures from around the county reveal mixed results.
Wynot Public School shows an increase of four students over last year. Hartington Public School has 346 students enrolled this year. This is 12 fewer than last year. Enrollment at Holy Trinity and Cedar Catholic also dipped. The combined enrollment of the two schools is 452 this year.

HARTINGTON—Aaron Bailey, 22, Correctionville, Iowa, died after a crane he was working with fell on him north of Hartington. He was part of a construction crew replacing a bridge on a county road four miles north of Hartington.

STANTON—The Cedar Catholic Trojans dominated Stanton to earn a 35-7 Mid-State Conference win. Sophomore quarterback Jesse Hochstein threw for 112 yards and rushed for 103 to lead the Cedar offense. He also rushed for two touch-downs and passed for two more.

WAYNE—Cedar Catholic’s girl’s golf team placed second at the Wayne Triangular Sept. 16. Cedar’s top finisher was freshman Ashley Burbach who placed sixth.

ST. JAMES — Mayors of several area communities will be sawing logs at this year’s St. James Marketplace Heritage Fest. The event is set for Sunday, Sept. 26. Mayors from several northern Cedar County towns including Wynot, Bow Valley and St. Helena are planning to enter.
