Lady Bears collect a pair of wins

LAUREL - The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Lady Bears volleyball team won a pair of regular season match ups with 3-1 win in Ponca on Sept. 3 in Greater Northeast Activities Conference action and a 3-0 sweep over Randolph on Sept. 5 in a match played here in Laurel.

Once the Lady Bears got rolling in the match with the Lady Cardinals, thing went downhill fairly quickly for the red-clad girls as LCC controlled the outcome.

Rena Rasmussen and Tali Erwin led the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge attack with 12 and 10 kills respectively in the three sets.

The Lady Bears also made some hay from the service line as they rifled 14 kills in the match led by Rasmussen with five, Kaida Eriksen and Tyler Recob each fired three and Carlie Kvols had one to go along with her 28 set-assists.

Lainey Schutte, Recob, Rasmussen, Kvols and Eriksen each had a block at the net, Recob had five digs.

LCC got offensive in the match with the Lady Indians played in Ponca.

The Lady Bears won the opening set rather easily, 25-16, but Ponca responded to take the second set 25-18 and the third set arguably pushed the match in Laurel-Concord- Coleridge’s favor as it held on for a 25-23 win to go up 2-1 in the best-of-five-sets match.

LCC took the fourth and decisive set by a more comfortable, 25-18 final score.

The Lady Bears hit double digits in kills led by Eriksen with 16.

Rasmussen added 13 and Erwin hammered 10. Recob was just one away with nine.

Rasmussen also hit four ace serves while Eriksen recorded three and Alexys Hahne had two.

Kvols tipped up 44 set assists while Erwin and Eriksen completed double-doubles with 18 and 16 digs respectively.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge was set for a triangular date with Homer and Walthill in Homer before playing in the Wakefield Tournament on Sept. 12 and 14.
