Pippitt hits milestone at Laurel blood drive

LAUREL — As Grandparents Day approaches this September, LifeServe Blood Center is encouraging families to embrace a meaningful tradition that not only honors our elders but also contributes to the community in a significant way: blood donation.

Grandparents Day is a time to celebrate the wisdom, love, and legacy of those who came before us. This year, we invite families to come together and make blood donation a tradition that can be passed down through generations. By donating blood, families can honor their grandparents and set an example of compassion and community service for their children and grandchildren.

The blood drive held in conjunction with this initiative in Laurel on Tuesday, Sept. 3 was a resounding success, organizers said.

Thanks to the generosity of participating families, 23 donors were registered, with 20 units of blood collected, potentially saving up to 60 lives.

This remarkable effort demonstrates the power of family and community coming together for a greater cause, organizers said.

Blood donation is a simple yet powerful way to save lives, and the need for blood is constant. Donating as a family during this special time of year not only strengthens family bonds but also instills the values of giving and community service in the next generation.

LifeServe Blood Center encourages all families to consider making blood donation a part of their Grandparents Day celebrations this September. Together, we can create a tradition that honors the past, enriches the present, and secures a healthier future for all.

Organizers said they appreciate the efforts of Lisa Karnes and United Lutheran Church for coordinating this drive and to the Laurel Fire and Rescue Team for providing the location.

“Our ability to serve over 175 hospitals would not be possible without communities like Laurel and our incredible volunteers and donors,” organizers said.

The next Laurel Community Blood Drive will be Tuesday, Nov. 5., at the Laurel Fire Hall.
