HARTINGTON — Two big city projects are moving forward as the result of Hartington City Council action Monday night.
The Council approved a building permit for Roger Wortmann and the Skylon Ballroom.
The Council also accepted a bid for a new city maintenance shop.
Council members were pleased to learn the city shop project is coming in under budget.
The Hartington City Council reviewed bids for the construction of the new seven-bay garage and shop at its Monday meeting.
Last May voters approved up to $1.3 million in bonds to pay for the project.
However, the city will only be asking for $1.2 million when it meets with its bond company, D.A. Davidson of Omaha.
Three contractors entered bids for the construction project.
Green Gables of Valley, James Steel of Yankton, S.D. and RaDec Construction of Hartington.
Prior to acceptance of RaDec's $1,047,699 bid, the Council went into a 22-minute executive session.
The RaDec bid calls for the construction of a new city shop building at 301 N. Madison Street in Hartington. The bid also noted RaDec would be working with all local subcontractors on the project, including North Central Builders, Feilmeier Electric, Steffen Electric, Plumbing and Electric and Stevens Construction.
Between the RaDec bid and the $65,702 bid from Plumbing and Electric for dirt work on the project, the project should cost about $1.1 million. The city will bond for $1.2 million, though, so there is money available for contingencies, Mayor Mark Becker said.
The Skylon building permit calls for the construction of a 120x70 foot community center building.
The estimated cost of the project is $850,000.
The Skylon will be moved and placed on a new foundation just west of Bomgaars in the new industrial park.
Drawings submitted with the application indicate there will be space for 107 vehicles in the Skylon parking lot.
