COLERIDGE — Gerald Van Briesen, a truck driver for Kreutzen Motor Express of Mankato, Minn., was seriously injured Thursday in an unloading accident here.

Van Briesen and Herb Bose, an employee of Hansen Implement, were unloading a Hesston 500 self-propelled windrower when the incident occurred.

The machine had been moved off the semi-truck onto the ramp truck of Hansen Implement when the machine overturned. Driven by Van Briesen, the windrower tipped, throwing him onto the ground and the machine then fell on him.

Witnessing the accident were Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Thomas who immediately turned in the alarm for help. The windrower was pushed off Mr. Van Briesen and the Coleridge Ambulance took him to the Osmond General Hospital. Later he was transferred to a Sioux City Hospital. He sustained two broken ribs and a severe gash over his right eye. The machine also fell heavily on his right foot but nothing was broken.

COLERIDGE — The members of Carl Korff Post 114 of Coleridge were honored Sunday by the Auxiliary Unit at a carry-in supper observance of the 50th anniversary of the Legion.

Special recognition and a plaque were given to Lloyd Henry for 50 years of continuous membership by commander Leonard Feuerbach on behalf of the Legionaries.

Mr. Henry expressed his thanks to the group. Mrs. Gordon Janssen had charge of the card party following the program. Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Hefner won high scores, Mrs. John Feuerbach and Mrs. Martha Beckman, low and George V. Hefner, travelers. Lunch was served at the close of the evening.

Coleridge retained their position in the Tri-County Amateur League standings this week as they defeated Laurel 8-4. Rain blocked out the Sunday night game with Wausa. A total of 14 hits paced the Coleridge victory as Darrell Benson topped off the parade with a round trip hit in the final inning. Benson also had a single in his three turns at the plate. Larry Meier led the Coleridge hitters with three singles in five trips as Barnes and Hoffart each had 2-3. Steilow had 2-2 and Schrieber 2-4. The other single was by Olsen. The battery was Hefner and Frerichs with Hoffart catching. McCoy of Laurel had a home run early in the first inning. Coleridge was to play Bloomfield Thursday but due to the fact they have failed to field a team the date is open. The scheduled with Wausa this past Sunday evening will be played on Tuesday, July 1, due to wet grounds.
