Dixon County Fair is making early appearance

CONCORD – It may seem early to some, but the Dixon County Fair is right around the corner.

CONCORD – It may seem early to some, but the Dixon County Fair is right around the corner.

Organizers made the decision after last year’s fair to move the annual sixday event into early July.

The fair will begin Friday, July 5 with a 6 p.m. concert as the country music band Eli Alger & the Faster Horses takes the stage with Midnight Rodeo to follow.

At 7:30 p.m. that night, the fifth annual Don Cunningham Memorial Team Sorting competition will begin for two-man ranch team sorting.

River City Carnival rides will also open on the midway Friday. The carnival will be open at 5 p.m. Friday through Tuesday. Love-A-Lop children’s petting zoo will also be open all week.

The 4-H Exhibit Hall opens from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday through Tuesday.

Saturday’s events feature a 4-H horse show at 8:30 a.m. and a 4-H Clover Kids bucket calf show at 3 p.m. Saturday’s main attraction is the 7 p.m. demolition derby.

Community church services take place at 8 a.m. That will be followed by a 4-H Jr. Leaders omlette feed. The Open Class Horse Show begins at 9 a.m. The kiddie tractor pull takes place at noon on Sunday.

The Open Class Beef Show begins at 5 p.m. Sunday. Barrel racing takes center stage at 6p.m., while the evening winds up with Faith and Family Night, featuring Zellmer Family Minstry, Ryan Stevenson, and Rhett Walker Family and Family Production. That all begins at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

A free barbecue and ice cream social will take place from 5-7 p.m. Monday.

The Western Iowa Garden Tractor Pullers will provide the entertainment starting at 6 p.m. Monday.

Tuesday opens with a Farmer’s Pride breakfast from 7-9 a.m. The Northeast Neb. Tractor Pull, featuring antique tractors will take place at 4 p.m.

The fair wraps up on Wednesday, July 10 with exhibit hall winners receiving their trophies in the livestock show arena. Bonus Auction follows at 1:30 p.m.
