Expos drop two South Central games

WYNOT - For the third time this season, the Wynot Expos were defeated by the Yankton Tappers in South Central League action, dropping a 13-12 decision here on July 1.

WYNOT - For the third time this season, the Wynot Expos were defeated by the Yankton Tappers in South Central League action, dropping a 13-12 decision here on July 1.

The Tappers beat the Expos back on May 12, 12-2, and on June 9, 6-5.

Earlier in the week, Wynot fell to Sioux City by a touchdown, 14-7.

The Expos fell behind 4-0 in the first two innings before coming alive with a 5-run bottom of the frame.

Peyton Wieseler opened the Wynot half of the second with a home run over the right field wall then Ryan Heimes worked a walk.

After a pop fly out, David Schenk singled in the hole to send Heimes to second.

Then, after a strikeout, Heimes advanced to third on a passed ball with Jude Krie, who was put in to run for Schenk, advanced to second.

Heimes scored on another passed ball which left Krie at third.

Nathan Wieseler singled up the middle which chased Krie home.

Jackson Sudbeck came to the plate and promptly tripled past the left fielder scoring Nathan Wieseler.

Landon Wieseler slapped a line drive into right field and the Expos grabbed their first lead of the game, 5-4.

Wynot went up 6-4 on a sacrifice fly by Schenk which scored Ryan Heimes who got on board on a fielder’s choice.

The Tappers tied it up in the top of the fourth on a 2-run homer by Will Rauch and it was 6-6 heading to the bottom of the fourth and Yankton regained the lead with four runs in the top of the sixth, highlighted by a 3-run long ball by Joe Gokie.

The Tappers scored another run before the third out on a wild pitch to build the lead up to 11-6.

The lead would grow to 13-6 before the Expos started to rally in bottom of the seveth.

Lee Heimes, Peyton Wieseler, Ryan Heimes all scored in the Wynot half of the inning.

Lee Heimes was hit by a pitch to open the bottom of the eighth and advanced to second on a single by Ryan Heimes.

Devon Lammers doubled to send Lee Heimes home, leaving Ryan Heimes at third base. Then Schenk grounded into a fielder’s choice where Ryan Heimes scored and Lammers was out advancing to third.

Scott Morrison singled to left field then Nathan Wieseler singled to center field scoring Krie, but Morrison was called out at the plate trying to score to end the rally one run short 13-12.

The Expos went down in order in the bottom of the ninth and the Tappers went home with the victory.

Sioux City was cruising along with a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third when Wynot responded with three runs to make it 4-3.

Sioux City added a couple of runs in the top of the next frame and another in the seventh to make it 7-3 heading into the eighth.

The lead grew to 9-3 after the top of the inning, but Wynot plated four runs in the bottom of the inning to get back in the game.

Unfortunately for the Expos, Sioux City scored five runs in the top of the ninth to put the game out of reach.

Wynot is slated to be in Crofton on July 3 before hosting Freeman on July 7. The Expos will be back on the road July 11 when they head to Lesterville.
