Work is now underway on Coleridge park project

COLERIDGE – Steady progress is being made on the Coleridge Village Park Improvement Project.

COLERIDGE — Steady progress is being made on the Coleridge Village Park Improvement Project.

The old playground equipment has now been removed, and site work is being done to get the park area ready for the new equipment.

Construction of the new equipment will be beginning soon.

With construction now underway, the park is not a safe place to play. Community leaders are urging everyone to please not play on the sand/dirt piles that are in the park area and to be cautious of where they are walking and playing in the park at this time.

The little park by the Community Building and the play equipment at LCC Middle School are great options for playgrounds at this time.

All of these park upgrades are being made possible by the Coleridge Area Fund, which put on a fund drive to make the much needed improvements.

This project would not be possible without the people who have provided support, Fund organizers said. “The folks who live in the Coleridge area work together to get things done and this is just one example of how their dedication will result in a great project. It is great to see the Park Improvement Project reaching the bidding and construction phases,” CAF member Mary Biltoft said. “It will be fun to see kids of all ages playing on the new equipment in 2024.”

The Village of Coleridge has also been awarded grant dollars in support of the Park improvement Project, including a federal Land and Water Conservation Fund grant through the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The Sherwood Foundation has also provided a sizable grant to CAF to be used toward items that are accessible for diverse abilities. The Cedar County Tourism Board also provided funds for signage.

Anyone still wishing to help the project, can make a tax-deductible donation to the Coleridge Area Fund, a subsidiary of the Nebraska Community Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization. Donations may be made online at www.nebcommfound.org/ give/coleridgearea- fund or directly to Mary Biltoft, CAF Treasurer, P.O. Box 3, Coleridge, NE 68727.
