“Adventures begin at your library” with the 2024 Summer Reading Program

HARTINGTON – The Hartington City Library will be hosting “Adventure Begins @ Your Library,” for the Summer Reading Program this year. Participants will be sent romping though rainforests, combing beaches, climbing mountains and hanging out under the stars.

HARTINGTON — The Hartington City Library will be hosting “Adventure Begins @ Your Library,” for the Summer Reading Program this year. Participants will be sent romping though rainforests, combing beaches, climbing mountains and hanging out under the stars.

Readers will experience wonders through games and activities, crafts, silly songs and of course with exciting stories and tales that will send your imagination soaring.

Register at the Hartington Public Library today, June 5, anytime between the hours of 9 a.m.-6 p.m. This program is free and open to preschool children, age four, through those entering the fifth grade. Each child will be given a reading log, and awarded prizes for books read and for those who are being read to. There are also at home contest to do and return to the library for judging.

The Story Hour at the library consists of four weekly sessions held on Wednesdays, at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m., for Pre-School (4 yrs.) to 2nd grade.

Week 1 – June 12: Explore under a canopy in a rainforest while we read about a sleepy sloth, a colorful chameleon and musical elephant. We may even may end up going a little bananas.

Week 2 – June 19: Run your fingers through sand and tide pools while learning about some starfish, reading about a fiasco involving a lollipop and a goose who did not want to go to the beach.

Week 3 – June 26: Adventurers will meet a juice drinking moose and read about a determined fly and some singing goats.

Week 4 – July 10: Hands will be busy with backyard activities that encourages exploration and learning after reading about some squabbling squirrels, a camping Trex and s’more making raccoon.

The UNL Extension in Cedar County will hold sessions for third-fifth grade students at the basement of the city auditorium 10 a.m., Wednesdays.

Week 1- June 12: The first session is all about teamwork and the ability to solve clues on a scavenger hunt.

Week 2- June 19: Youth will learn about fruit and veggie yoga along with building an appreciation for heart healthy foods with a veggie taste testing party.

Week 3- June 26: The kids will visit different countries from around the world, and learn and create different art forms.

Week 4- July 10: The final session, they will learn about the wonders of nature and how being outside can improve your health. There will be a special guest from the Nebraska Game and Parks.

Join us at our finale Great Plains Zoo Mobile and their animal ambassadors, July 12, at 10 a.m., at the City Auditorium basement.

Contest and grand prize drawings will be held after the program.
